djow(Toshio ono)と8g(Eiji miyata)による2人組みの絵画作家。
What is Gravityfree?
Gravityfree is a duo of painters composed of djow (Toshio Ono) and 8g (Eiji Miyata). Their journey of exploration, creating a singular worldview through mutual empathy and resonance, began in 2002 as a playful activity of painting with a small group at club events in Tokyo. They have participated in numerous large-scale outdoor festivals, including the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL, becoming key figures in popularizing live painting culture.
Their visual expressions are deeply influenced by the music and indigenous animism they encountered during their painting journeys, as well as by hippie and street cultures. The duo’s works take on abstract concepts, music, ancient worlds, and fundamental human impulses as their themes. These are combined with their lifelong love of manga and anime, which serve as the foundation for their distinctive deformations and pop-style creations. Their unique use of color imparts a psychedelic impression to viewers.
Harnessing their collaborative and fused creativity, Gravityfree engages in mural production and commercial work. In recent years, they have also pursued new forms of expression by showcasing works created in their studio at painting exhibitions.
